Ausstellungstipp: Ein anderes Land. Jüdisch in der DDR
Mit Ein anderes Land. Jüdisch in der DDR zeigt das Jüdische Museum Berlin (JMB) eine kulturhistorische Ausstellung über jüdische Erfahrungen in der DDR. Persönliche Objekte von Zeitzeugen und deren Nachkommen sowie Interviews mit Jüdinnen und Juden, die ihre Geschichte erzählen, vermitteln individuelle jüdische Perspektiven.
Die Ausstellung unternimmt eine dokumentarische Forschungsreise und verknüpft sie mit bildender Kunst, Film und Literatur, mit vielschichtigen Biografien und mit außergewöhnlichen Exponaten. So eröffnen sich Einblicke in das Leben von Jüdinnen und Juden, die vor den Nationalsozialisten aus Deutschland geflohen waren und nach 1945 in die sowjetische Besatzungszone zurückkehrten, die Konzentrationslager überlebt oder die Zeit im Versteck überstanden hatten. Nach der Erfahrung der Schoa hofften viele von ihnen, mit der DDR einen freien, antifaschistischen Staat aufzubauen: „ein anderes Land“.
Hetty Berg, Direktorin des JMB, führt aus: „Die Ausstellung widmet sich der Frage, was es in der DDR bedeutete, jüdisch zu sein – innerhalb und außerhalb von Gemeinden, für einzelne Personen und verschiedene Generationen. Zeitzeug*innen und ihre Nachkommen berichten, was aus ihren Hoffnungen auf einen antifaschistischen Staat geworden ist und wie sie heute auf ihr Jüdischsein in der DDR blicken. Ihre Erzählungen zeigen eine Vielzahl individueller Erfahrungen in Ostdeutschland.“
Jüdisches Leben in acht Gemeinden – in Ostberlin, Dresden, Leipzig, Magdeburg, Erfurt, Schwerin, Halle und Chemnitz bzw. Karl-Marx-Stadt – wird als Alltags- und Sozialgeschichte in den Blick genommen. Die Westflucht 1952/53, die Reaktionen auf den Sechs-Tage-Krieg 1967 und andere Ereignisse werden als Knotenpunkte jüdischer Geschichte in Ostdeutschland vorgestellt. Damit ergänzt die Ausstellung den aktuellen Ost-West-Diskurs um eine jüdische Perspektive.
Sammlungsschwerpunkt im JMB
Das JMB beherbergt bereits viele bedeutende Objekte zum Thema – durch die Ausstellung baut das Museum den Schwerpunkt weiter aus: Zu Beginn des Jahres 2022 hatte das JMB einen Sammlungsaufruf zur Ausstellung veröffentlicht. Die Resonanz war groß: Viele Personen meldeten sich und übergaben dem JMB zahlreiche Objekte als Schenkungen. Darüber hinaus entwickelte die Regisseurin Yael Reuveny eigens für die Ausstellung die achtteilige Audio- und Filminstallation „Neuland“. Das Werk und die dafür geführten Video-Interviews gehen in die Sammlung des Museums ein.
Begleitprogramm
Die Bandbreite des Begleitprogramms reicht von einem Konzert der Band „Stern-Combo Meißen“ bis hin zu einer wissenschaftlichen Tagung, die in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Moses Mendelssohn Zentrum Potsdam stattfindet. Auch die Ausstellung selbst wird zum Veranstaltungsort: Lesungen, Künstlergespräche, Filmvorführungen – in der Reihe „DDR am Dienstag“ geben Gäste an fast jedem Dienstag von 17:30 Uhr bis 18:30 Uhr in der Ausstellung persönliche Einblicke in ihre Erfahrungen, ihre Familiengeschichte und ihre Beschäftigung mit jüdischem Leben in der DDR. Den Anfang machen Alena Fürnberg und Renate Aris.
Die von Tamar Lewinsky, Martina Lüdicke und Theresia Ziehe kuratierte Ausstellung wurde gefördert von der Beauftragten der Bundesregierung für Kultur und Medien und der Kulturstiftung der Länder. Die Mixed-Media-Installation „vom ich zum wir“ von Leon Kahane wurde ermöglicht von den FREUNDEN DES JMB.
Eine reich bebilderte Publikation zur Ausstellung mit 15 Essays verschiedener Autor*innen erscheint im Ch. Links Verlag, Berlin. 272 Seiten, 28 Euro.
