Die 6. Auflage der Kirchenstudie offenbart dramatische Tendenzen. Der Domprobst des Erzbistums Berlin im DTalk in DNEWS24.

Laut der 6. Auflage der Kirchenmitgliedschaftsuntersuchung („Kirchenstudie“) waren im Jahr 1972 noch 90 Prozent der (damals westdeutschen) Bevölkerung Mitglied in einer der beiden großen Kirchen.  Heute sind es gerade noch 48 Prozent (25 katholisch, 23 evangelisch). Nur knapp ein Fünftel der Befragten glaubt, „dass es einen Gott gibt, der sich in Jesus Christus zu erkennen gegeben hat“

Dramatisch sind auch die Aussagen über die Bindung der Gläubigen: Nur 4 Prozent der katholischen und 6 Prozent der evangelischen Christinnen und Christen geben an, ihrer jeweiligen Kirche eng verbunden zu sein. Das Vertrauen insbesondere in die katholische Kirche ist dramatisch gesunken: von über 80 Prozent auf nur noch 22 Prozent der eigenen Mitglieder seit den 80er-Jahren. Gleichzeitig ist die Neigung zum Austritt aus der Kirche deutlich gestiegen: Fast die Hälfte der Katholiken denkt über einen Kirchenaustritt nach, nur noch ein Drittel schließt ihn grundsätzlich aus.

Eine überwältigende Mehrheit von 96 Prozent der Katholiken findet, dass sich ihre Kirche grundlegend erneuern muss – zu den wichtigsten Reformthemen gehören ein positiver Umgang mit Homosexualität, mehr Mitbestimmung von Laien, Aufhebung des Zölibats und stärkere ökumenische Zusammenarbeit.

Papst Franziskus wirft den Deutschen in einem Brief an vier Katholikinnen vor, »das ›Heil‹ in immer neuen Gremien zu suchen und in einer gewissen Selbstbezogenheit die immer gleichen Themen zu erörtern«. Stattdessen lädt der Papst dazu ein, »sich zu öffnen und hinauszugehen, um unseren Brüdern und Schwestern zu begegnen, besonders jenen, die an den Schwellen unserer Kirchentüren, auf den Straßen, in den Gefängnissen, in den Krankenhäusern, auf den Plätzen und in den Städten zu finden sind«. Der Brief ist in deutscher Sprache verfasst und handschriftlich mit »Franziskus« unterzeichnet.

Tobias Przytarski studierte Philosophie und Theologie in Paderborn und Kirchenrecht in Rom. Heute ist er Dompropst des Erzbistums Berlin.
